Greece & Italy - 6/26/10

Our first full day in Athens--

We started in the morning visiting the New Acropolis Museum with a local guide, then continued up to the Acropolis to see the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and lots of slippery rocks.  We then went to see the original venue built for the Olympic Games of 1896--the Panathinaiko Stadium.

Afterwards, there were several hours of free time.  We shopped, we ate, some came back to the hotel for a nap.

After dinner at a nearby restaurant and celebrating Corin Kumamoto's birthday (a day late...), we had our first performance at the Parnassos Cultural Center, or something to that effect.  We had a great audience and great performance; the first half was Poly, and the second half was a local choir who played host to our visiting choir.  The kids are really tired, but they had a wonderful performance tonight, met with rousing applause and gifts for everyone!

We've got our long day cruise to Aegina, Hydra, and Poros, so check back again tomorrow night.  No news to report; no thefts/losses (knock on wood!), no major illnesses (a few with mild exhaustion and dehydration--nothing sleep and water can't fix), and so far a wonderful time.  We haven't seen any instances of protests or demonstrations (again, knock on wood), and from what it seems, that's all done with now.  Good night!

Greece & Italy - 6/25/10 part 2

We're done with our first day in Athens now.  We had our group dinner, then walked around briefly in the Plaka pedestrian area.  Here's a picture of the kids with the Acropolis/Parthenon in the background.

Tomorrow we have our first full day in Athens, with a morning sightseeing tour of the New Acropolis Museum, the Acropolis, and then our first concert performance!

Greece & Italy 2010 - June 24

And we're off!

I just wanted to let our friends and family know that we left LAX this afternoon without much difficulty, other than the difficulty inherent in moving this many people together at once. I'll try to keep everyone updated on this site, but it all depends on what kind of internet service I have available abroad.

We've got a little over a half a day of travel to do before we set foot in Athens--14 hours of flying, plus two hours at London's Heathrow airport. I wish peace upon you parents back home, and peace upon the other people on the airplane that will have to endure our group...

Parents, you can email or call me (international number, which I sent out recently in an email) if anything urgent comes up, otherwise check back here often for reports on how we're doing in Europe. Wish us luck!

Greece & Athens - 6/25/10

We're here!

We arrived safely this evening (local time), and will soon be on our way to our first group dinner.  We had minimal issues on the way over--mostly kids changing seats without asking, things like that--but on whole it was good.  Long (16 hours of transit), but good.  All our bags made it, and we haven't lost anyone yet!

I'll try to post some pictures here after dinner in a few hours...

Photos for 2009-2010

For those of you waiting for pictures from this year (Graduation, retreats, etc.), you'll have to wait until we return from Europe in July.  We'll also post the Cabaret and Spring Concert slideshows then.
